July 8th Fishing Report

July 8th Fishing Report

Posted by Jeff Gray on

The first week of July has passed and we are headed into the heart of the season. Water is still plentiful in these parts making for great fishing from a boat, but the wade fishing has still been a bit tough. Current flows coming out of Painted Rocks Dam is 401 CFS, Darby is 1840 CFS and Bell Crossing is 3450 CFS. PMD's and Goldens have been ruling the top water action. Look for some Caddis action in the evening as well. A dry dropper rig in the am will offer success until the dry fly action picks up usually around 11:00ish. Golden Plan B's in a #10-14, Anorexic Golden Chubby #8-16, Purple Haze - Brindlechute - Para PMD all in a 14-16 will usually get the job done. Yes, we're still seeing some green drakes, so a larger mayfly pattern is a good searching pattern in the afternoon as well. Be safe on the water, as conditions change with the dropping water so do obstructions.
