Fish the Missouri River

Fish the Missouri River with the professional guide staff from Freestone Fly Shop. We are currently booking April 25th - May 30th 2023.

The Missouri River is one of, if not, the greatest  fisheries the western US has to offer. With prolific hatches and 1000's of fish per mile, what more could an angler ask for? We target this watershed during our runoff period from late April to the end of May in particular because it is one of the few areas of Montana that is fishable during this period of time. With the average fish size in the 18"-20" range anglers are seldom disappointed in the quality or the quantity of fish one can put to the net on any given day. We are targeting large Rainbow and Brown Trout that are hard fighters. Seeing your backing on any given day is certainly a possibility.
Lodging is plentiful but is booked well in advance during this time of year. You'll want to get something booked right away. The towns of Craig, Wolf Creek, Cascade or even Helena can all serve as a hub for your lodging destinations. If you're flying in, Helena Int Airport is the closet airport to your destination. From there the Missouri River is an easy 45 minute drive via I-15.
We focus booking trips on the Missouri River this time of year because we feel it offers the best time to catch large trout in great numbers. You won't be alone, this is likely the busiest time of year for this river, however with flows that often exceed 10,000 CFS boats spread out easily and there is plenty of fishing to go around.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us and we'd be happy to answer any of your questions.
